Our hotel in Pitesti, the big-ish city nearest to Oarja, which is about 20 minutes away.
View of Pitesti from hotel room. The big building to the right is a synogogue.
Coming into Oarja, Romania, the place where we actually worked.
Our work site. The big building in view is one of the three blocks that have already renovated (still a bit of finish work to do there). The building we were working on was just behind it.
This is one of the girls working in the apartments on our first day. By the end of the first day, we had completed installing insulation on all of the outside walls. By the end of the week, the entire 2nd floor was insulated, including the ceiling and the interior walls. We ROCK!
Left: Hannah, one of our participants.
The view from the second story of the new apartment building, where we installed insulation. It's a chicken coop set between two of the older blocks, already in use. Note the land - flat, flat, flat!
Some of the children that lived on the site. Playful and beautiful, the lot!
Left: some of the plastering work that some of the girls did - they had to come up with extra work for us, because we worked far faster than they anticipated. Girrrl power! Right: lunchtime - we ate outside every day (the weather was almost exactly the same as it was in Delaware!), and Nutella was a HUGE part of our lunchtime culinary experience!
Looking from the worksite of the road - that's a typical Romanian wagon, quite possibly Roma.
One of our team members, Karen, playing with one of the kids.
Ann again, this time posing with Alexandru, our Host Coordinator - and a really, really great guy!!! As you can see, our work is just about complete.
Our farewell dinner at an "authentic Romanian Restaurant." Sarah Brockmann is pictured with Cristi, our site supervisor. What a sweetheart! Click here to read the article about our mission trip to Romania. |
